Communicating Wishes
Listening and Speaking Lesson
This lesson specifically focuses on instructing students from an amalgamation of different countries (e.g., Brazil, China, Vietnam, and Japan) of various learner levels via Zoom. The lesson focuses on the concept of “communicating wishes” or the instruction of hypothetical conditionals in a listening and speaking context. The lesson utilizes a variety of different types of tasks that involve watching media, interacting in full class discussions, group work, and playing games to become familiar with using this grammar.
Lesson Materials
This lesson was developed for a 50-minute online course taught collaboratively by my colleagues and I in the Spring of 2021 via Zoom. Each of us filled various roles each week depending on whether we were acting as the primary instructor for the lesson or a co-instructor. Outside of the role of primary instructor, we were each required to fill the role of coach (i.e., assisted in reviewing and editing lesson plan materials), and evaluator (i.e., observer of the lesson). The simplified lesson plan serves as the overview of the lesson for my fellow co-instructors of the course. The slides were used to teach the content of the lesson and were projected via Zoom’s screen-sharing feature during instruction.
Lesson Activities
These documents were used during the instruction of this lesson. The first two handouts were developed for the same activity (i.e., activity 1) for the two primary learner levels in the course: beginner and high intermediate/low advanced. The third document served as the handout for the second activity in the lesson for all learner levels.
Lesson Activities and Homework
These documents were used during the instruction of this lesson. The first handout was used during the third activity and the final handout was posted to the Google classroom after class as the homework activity following this lesson.
