Issues of Assessment for English Language Learners

This document serves as an example of my current assessment philosophies and what I believe to be the most effective practices to implement for effective teaching in an EFL/ESL context and the best practices to promote learning retention in students. In this document, I discuss my use of achievement and diagnostic testing in the classroom, as well as my methods and beliefs regarding grading criteria (e.g., analytic rubrics) and feedback.

Language Proficiency Assessment

This document analyzes two different English Proficiency Tests: the TOEFL iBT and the IELTS. These two tests have been reviewed and critiqued from the perspective of teaching in an EFL context in Japan.

Standard 4.c.

Classroom-Based Assessment for ESL

This document represents a formative achievement test for use in an EFL context. The assessment consists of a speech and an oral interview developed for an advanced Oral Communication course (i.e., the highest-level English communication course) offered at Kobe Kaisei College in Japan. This assessment is currently in the process of being created and on completion it will be uploaded to this page. The submission will occur no later than 05/13/2022.
